Years ago, created a collagraph print called San Fiasco. It was, by its nature monochromatic, and relied for impact on line and texture. However, I have always liked the design, and felt it would translate into a small work.
As it turned out, the translation was more difficult than I had anticipated. Sort of like learning Italian with a French textbook. After much effort, I was left with a small work of nothing … not a painting and not a print and not a drawing … it wouldn’t come out as anything much at all. But I really liked the scene.
So, I left it and went on to other things. When I came back to it without the baggage of what the original looked like, I found that in truth it was just a quiet little street with the big city looming, and a few night-owls with the lights on.
