All of those little putti that grace the ceilings and drape discrete swags over the various body parts of gods and goddesses … they are, as far as I can tell, always little boys and are one and all chubby and happy with their work.
But here is the thing … almost all adult angels are women … not the big guys, the archangels, they are too important to be female. But the others … those that might be referred to as working angels, they are generally female. One gathers that this is so that adult angels can be semi-nude and appeal to a male audience.
But it begs the question … what happened to all those little baby angels … the putti that inhabit so much space in the art of certain periods.
This guy looks to have moved on to the musical arts. Good luck with that.
